With panoramic views across the 27-hole golf course, this resort hotel in Vilamoura offers luxurious rooms with a private balcony or patio. It also features indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
Rooms at Pestana Vila Sol Golf & Resort Hotel have modern interiors with natural colours. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and a seating area with a minibar.
Guests of Pestana Vila Sol can enjoy meals at Green Pines Restaurant overlooking the golf course. There is also a pool-side bar, and Le Club Bar located in the ClubHouse, a short walk from the hotel. The hotel is 7 minutes’ drive from Vilamoura Beach.
The course at Vila Sol consists of 27 holes. The first 9 holes are known as ‘Prime’, the second 9 ‘Challenge’ and the third 9 ‘Prestige’. The front 9 has been known to be called “the most difficult start on the Algarve”. The first 9 holes see long and narrow fairways offering very challenging golf, with the back nine offering hilly and more difficult greens.
Most guests will enjoy playing the 27 holes at Vila Sol but guests at the resort can enjoy resident rate green fees at the other 4 golf courses that Pestana own on the Algarve. 4 are within very easy reach of Alvor – Gramacho, Vale da Pinta, Silves and Alto.
Vale da Pinta – Designed by the famous American golf course architect Ronald Fream and inaugurated in 1992 Vale da Pinta has earned its place as one of the best designed courses in the Algarve and in Europe.
Gramacho Golf Course – After his success designing the Vale de Pinta course, Ronald Fream teamed up with the former world No. 1 Nick Price to create the unique design of Gramacho. With 18 holes and 27 greens, plus numerous different tee points, players are able to enjoy the same course time and time again but always with slightly different challenges.
Silves – is a serene spot at the foot of the Monchique mountain, but it is anything other than ‘a walk in the park’ – a drive at the opening hole has to flirt with water hazards on both flanks.
This course is for players – low handicaps will find it a serious challenge to come in under par. But high handicaps (with concentration) will be able to enjoy their round.
Most holes offer spectacular mountain views overlooking palm trees and olive groves, the surrounding cork and citrus farms generate a true feeling of authentic Portuguese golf.
The last course designed by the legendry Sir Henry Cotton, Alto Golf embodies his belief that a golf course should test players with low handicaps but also provide a pleasant game for golfers of only average ability. Situated near the picturesque village of Alvor, the course offers extraordinary white sandy beaches, clear blue sea and fascinating cliffs which all add to its charm and character.
The par 72 course traverses two gently sloping valleys with the front nine offering stunning views of the bay of Lagos. The back nine, set against rolling slopes, offers quite a test and includes the (quite frankly) remarkable Sir Henry Cotton Challenge – a huge par 5. At 661 yards, it requires concentration and skill to ensure a respectable score. With gently undulating greens, the course also challenges your putting ability.
